Welcome to my History of Art research blog. I’m a historian of eighteenth and ninteeeth-century British art currently undertaking a PhD focused on theatrical portraiture in the mid-nineteenth-century. My project is a Collaborative Doctoral Award at the University of Bristol and the National Portrait Gallery, London supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. This blog will be a space to more informally discuss my research interests, archival adventures and exhibition visits. More immediately, however, I will be detailing, processing and hopefully provoking dialogue about my experiences in Digital Art History. Today I have embarked upon an intensive two-week summer institute entitled ‘Building a Digital Portfolio’ along with 19 other History of Art postgraduate students at George Mason University’s Roy Rosenzweig Center for History of New Media, funded by the Getty Foundation.
